Lexaria is a food sciences company focused on the delivery of cannabinoid compounds procured from legal, agricultural hemp, through gourmet foods based upon its proprietary infusion technologies. Lexaria Corp. is active in three market segments, all focused on your comfort and well-being.
Late in 2013 Lexaria Corp. first began looking at the opportunities becoming available because of changes in laws at the State level in the USA; and at the Federal level in Canada, all in the field of medical marijuana. Because of still conflicting laws and federal government agency policies, we decided it was prudent to not be involved at this time with medical marijuana in the USA. Protecting our shareholders from exposure to potentially ruinous litigation was a factor in that decision. But in Canada, medical marijuana has been legal for over 10 years, under various pieces of federal Canadian legislation. Early in 2014, Lexaria formed a joint venture with another public company for the purpose of pursuing Licensed Producer status under the Marijuana for Medical Purposes Regulations (MMPR). Lexaria owns 49% of that joint venture. While some firms stormed ahead with early license applications, many of those were poorly contemplated. For example our joint venture took the time to hold meetings with local government officials and community leaders, providing opportunities for public input and feedback. As a result the City of Burlington granted final municipal zoning approval in July 2014 for our facility. Within days, our license application was submitted to Health Canada, the governing agency for the MMPR legislation.
